Our Funding Partners
SickKids research changes the world’s understanding of childhood illness and disease. Since its founding in 1954, SickKids Research Institute has grown into one of North America’s largest and most productive hospital-based research centres. The SickKids Centre for Research & Learning is one of the single largest capital projects dedicated to paediatric research in the world. It will cost $400 million to build and equip.
Of the $400 million, $200 million was raised by the Hospital through long-term borrowing against which the Foundation has made fundraising commitments.
SickKids Foundation is committed to a special fundraising campaign to support both construction and the ongoing operating costs of the building.
Partnerships count. We are grateful for the support of the Canada Foundation for Innovation. SickKids will receive $91.1 million from CFI’s Research Hospital Fund Large-Scale Institutional Endeavours. This investment is an endorsement by the Government of Canada of the crucial research conducted at SickKids.
Lead Donor
Peter Gilgan, Founder and CEO of Mattamy Homes, made a transformational gift of $40 million in support of the SickKids Centre for Research and Learning. The gift was celebrated on March 7, 2012 as the single largest private donation ever made to a children's hospital in Canada. Mr. Gilgan's generous donation will support the construction and ongoing operating costs of the SickKids Centre for Research and Learning.
